DSSN serves students and communities in Zimbabwe and Kentucky—two regions that share a common reality of too many young people who lack equitable access to quality education and opportunity.

In Zimbabwe, particularly in rural districts such as Buhera District where DSSN’s work is rooted, students face daily barriers that make learning difficult. Schools often operate with limited resources, underdeveloped infrastructure, and overcrowded classrooms. Basic necessities—such as textbooks, technology, school fees, and uniforms—are often out of reach for many families. These challenges disproportionately affect orphaned and vulnerable children, contributing to higher dropout rates and lower academic achievement.

In Kentucky, the barriers are different, but no less significant. In communities such as Lexington, students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds often face limited academic support outside the classroom. For immigrant and refugee families, the challenges can be even greater—ranging from language barriers to navigating an unfamiliar education system.

Across both regions, DSSN works alongside local communities to close this gap by providing scholarships, learning materials, and meaningful pathways for students to continue their education and pursue their goals.
